ADHD-DVD, Episode #35: The ‘Burbs (with Matt Pollock)

This week we're gawking at the weird freaks across the street, as we go from the urban hellscape of After Hours to Joe Dante's horror comedy about the monotonous terror of suburban living with 1989's The 'Burbs, directed by Dante, written by Dana Olsen, and starring Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Rick Ducommun, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman, Henry Gibson and Dick Miller. It's the start of another director series as we'll be celebrating the works of Joe Dante over the next three weeks, in a theme month we're calling Dante's In Fer November! Kicking it off with us is a man with a great mind for cinema, our most dedicated listener and a one-time radio jockey in his own right, Matt Pollock! Yes power listener Matty P is here to discuss a film very near and dear to him -- in fact his passion for it is what got J Mo to go scoop it up as a blind buy in the first place. Find him on Instagram, where he's making glorious movie content @MattysMovieBurner.

Other works discussed in this episode include Cop Car, Bottoms, Neighbors, Lake Placid, The Money Pit, Space Jam, Moonfall, and the broader works of Joe Dante such as Gremlins, Gremlins II: The New Batch, Small Soldiers, Matinee, The Howling and Looney Tunes: Back In Action. Meanwhile we're hyper-fixated on Justin's listening habits, the Skrulls doing 9/11 on the 1994 Fantastic Four cartoon, and Matt is suitably trying to fix his dryer.

We'll be back next week as Joe Dante Month continues with Innerspace, a movie about flying around in a space ship inside Martin Short. Can't wait!
