ADHD-DVD, Episode #34: After Hours
The calendar may have already flipped to November but Marty Month continues as we fittingly go into overtime with 1985's After Hours, directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Joseph Minion, and starring Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Fiorentino, Teri Garr, Catherine O'Hara, Verna Bloom, John Heard, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. It's a rare straight-up comedy from Marty, an anxious nightmare of a movie that takes place on one wild night in the streets of New York City, and it's Justin's nomination to the ADHD-DVD canon to close out a month long celebration of Scorsese cinema.
Other works discussed in this episode include Cape Fear, The Last Waltz, Talk To Me, Trick 'r Treat, and the Final Destination franchise, while we're hyper-fixating on cursed micro-playlists and even more cursed interactions at the gas station.
If you'd like to watch the movie ahead of our discussion, it is sadly not available for streaming in Canada at the time of publication, but is rentable for $5 through YouTube, Amazon and Cineplex.
We'll be back next week to kick off our latest theme month, Dante's In Fer November: a three-week sprint through the works of Joe Dante that begins next Friday when Matt Pollock joins us to talk Tom Hanks in The 'Burbs!
